Hamilton police have apprehended a sales representative from a local auto dealership as part of a major fraud and identity theft investigation involving luxury vehicles. The inquiry began in March of this year.

Investigators allege that between November 2023 and March 2024, the suspect misused his position at the dealership to fraudulently obtain 14 vehicles by utilizing stolen identities. This scheme has resulted in losses exceeding $1.5 million for both the dealership and financial institutions. Many victims of identity theft were unaware that loans had been taken out in their names to finance these purchases. Most of the vehicles have either been exported from the country or re-registered with new Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), with only one vehicle having been recovered to date.

The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Shelton Mark Gregouire from London, was arrested on August 14 and faces a total of 83 charges. Authorities have indicated that more arrests may follow as the investigation continues.
