A gang of armed robbers, who drove auto-rickshaws by day and committed violent crimes by night using stolen sports motorcycles, was busted by Delhi Police on Wednesday.
Three men — Sharik (28), Shabir Faheem (32), and Saurav — were arrested after swift police action in response to two armed robbery PCR calls from Jagatpuri and Geeta Colony on May 31.
According to DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam, the trio, along with an absconding fourth accomplice Shahzad, targeted unsuspecting commuters at gunpoint, using high-speed motorcycles to escape detection.
CCTV analysis across five crime scenes revealed the consistent use of stolen sports bikes, including one with a fake number plate traced back to a previous theft in Lajpat Nagar.
Modus Operandi:
They parked stolen bikes in Daryaganj
Took rented autos to targeted areas after dark
Committed armed robberies, then abandoned the bikes
Returned home by auto to avoid CCTV detection
A country-made pistol with live cartridge
A fake pistol disguised as a lighter
Two sports bikes (one confirmed stolen)
Two robbed smartphones including an iPhone
Rs 6,000 in cash
Vehicle lock-breaking tools and a knife
Police have so far linked the trio to five major armed robbery cases in:
Jagatpuri
Geeta Colony
Preet Vihar
Lajpat Nagar
Krishna Nagar
Sharik is believed to be the mastermind with 45 prior robbery and snatching cases, while Shabir and Saurav are repeat offenders with at least 12 cases each. The three are well-versed in evading law enforcement, having learned techniques during previous jail terms.
Further investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are likely, the DCP confirmed.
