LEWISTON, Maine (WGME) – A Lewiston woman has been charged with murder following the death of a 90-year-old man, which was later ruled a homicide.
Shari Allimah, 55, of Lewiston, was already incarcerated at the Androscoggin County Jail on unrelated charges when police charged her with the murder of Gerald Marin, a 90-year-old man from Litchfield.
Family members of Marin had contacted the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office to request a welfare check on him at his residence located at 1724 Hallowell Road in Litchfield. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Marin deceased inside his home. Authorities immediately called in the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
After conducting an investigation and gathering evidence at the scene, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Sunday, which led to the determination that Marin’s death was indeed a homicide. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been publicly disclosed.
On May 22, 2024, Major Crimes detectives arrested Allimah and formally charged her with murder. The motive behind the crime has not been revealed at this time, and authorities are continuing to investigate.
