Shannon Smith Arrested for Identity Theft and Fraud

A woman in Maricopa County, Arizona, has been arrested for identity theft and medical fraud, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). The suspect, 47-year-old Shannon Smith, is linked to multiple fraudulent activities that occurred between September 2022 and March 2024, amounting to approximately $500,000 in medical fraud.

On July 15, MCSO released images of Smith, identifying her as a suspect in several cases. Following the release, she was arrested on July 22.

During a mirandized interview with detectives, Smith confessed to receiving medical care while using the name of a victim, resulting in bills being charged to that individual. She acknowledged the charges at two hospitals known to investigators and revealed additional incidents where she utilized the victim’s information for medical services.

MCSO also noted that Smith had two outstanding warrants for her arrest. She has been booked into jail and faces multiple charges related to her fraudulent activities.
