Nearly seven months after Felita Bailey was fatally shot in the early hours of August 31, 2024, authorities have arrested a second suspect in her murder.
Merron Kanye Bailey, a 20-year-old from Dallas, was arrested by U.S. Marshals after a murder warrant was issued. The arrest followed the presentation of the case to the Potter County Grand Jury, which returned a true bill decision.
This follows the arrest of 22-year-old Dylan Black, who was booked into the Potter County Detention Center in early September on a murder charge related to the case.
The investigation into Felita Bailey’s death has been extensive, drawing significant attention and resources. More than 70 officers and investigators have worked tirelessly on the case, executing over 60 search warrants and interviewing over 50 witnesses. Agencies including the Potter County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshals, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the FBI have provided crucial support throughout the investigation.
Police believe the fatal shooting occurred after a street fight broke out following an after-party at a home on Avondale Street. Officers responded to shots fired just after 3 a.m. and found Bailey critically injured. She later died at a nearby hospital, while a second victim sustained serious injuries.
Despite challenges posed by misinformation on social media, law enforcement officials have remained focused on ensuring justice for Felita Bailey. The investigation continues, and it is still unclear how Merron Bailey was involved or if there are additional suspects.
Authorities are urging the public to assist with any further information related to the case.
