A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for the 2023 killing of his mother, 72-year-old Carol J. Clark.
Sean Rivera, of Morrisville, Falls Township, drugged his mother by lacing her iced tea with fentanyl before driving her to Philadelphia. Once there, he shot and killed her, leaving her body in a shed, which he locked with a padlock.
On Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, Rivera pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including second-degree murder, kidnapping to facilitate a felony, kidnapping to inflict injury or terror, aggravated assault, drug possession with intent to deliver, possession of a weapon, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, and reckless endangerment.
Judge Stephen A. Corr, who accepted Rivera’s negotiated plea, described the case as “horrific.” Rivera was sentenced to life in prison for the murder, along with 28 to 56 years on the other charges, to be served concurrently. Additionally, Judge Corr ordered Rivera to have no contact with surviving family members and undergo a mental health, drug, and alcohol evaluation.
