Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Denied Bail Amid Sex Trafficking Charges

A day after his arrest, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was accused of running a criminal enterprise that threatened and abused women. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The 54-year-old producer and performer was denied bail on Tuesday after being charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transporting individuals for prostitution. According to a federal indictment unsealed in court, Combs was described as the head of a yearslong criminal enterprise that coerced women into participating in drug-fueled orgies, often under the threat of violence or financial deprivation.

The indictment outlines disturbing allegations, including forced labor, bribery, and the use of firearms to maintain control over victims. Combs allegedly manipulated women into engaging in sexual activities with male prostitutes and recorded the events to ensure their compliance. The investigation, which has been ongoing since early this year, resulted in Combs’s arrest at a Manhattan hotel room on Monday.

Prosecutors argued that Combs poses a threat to the community and should remain detained while awaiting trial. Emily A. Johnson, one of the prosecutors, referred to him as a “serial abuser and a serial obstructer.” Law enforcement found suspected narcotics in his hotel room, adding to the severity of the case.

Combs’s legal team suggested a $50 million bond, but Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky denied the request, citing his history of anger and substance abuse issues. Tarnofsky voiced concern over the secretive nature of the alleged crimes.

The charges represent a striking blow to Combs’s once-polished public image as a hip-hop icon and entrepreneur. Known for producing hit records and creating successful brands like the Sean John clothing line, Combs has faced growing scrutiny over his conduct, with several lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct. His empire has crumbled amid these allegations.

The indictment mirrors accusations brought forward in a previous lawsuit by Combs’s former girlfriend, Casandra Ventura, who described similar abuses. Although Ventura settled her lawsuit quickly, the criminal case against Combs continues to develop. Prosecutors accuse him of obstructing justice by attempting to influence potential witnesses.

Combs’s legal team maintains his innocence, describing him as a self-made entrepreneur who looks forward to clearing his name in court.
