Man Arrested for Stealing $300K in Cryptocurrency Posing as Uber Driver
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A man was arrested on Thursday after allegedly pretending to be an Uber driver and stealing $300,000 in cryptocurrency. The Scottsdale Police Department, in collaboration with agents from the United States Secret Service Phoenix Field Office, executed a search warrant and arrested Nuruhussein Hussein on charges of theft and fraud.
According to investigators, between March and December 2024, Hussein would pose as an Uber driver, picking up passengers waiting at a Scottsdale hotel. Once the passengers were inside his vehicle, he would ask to use their unlocked phones to either get directions or connect to the Uber app. While using the phone, Hussein would secretly transfer cryptocurrency from their digital wallets to his own.
Hussein now faces multiple felony charges, including theft, fraud, and money laundering. He was booked into Maricopa County Jail following his arrest.
