Scarborough Police Make Arrests in Major Drug Trafficking Bust
SCARBOROUGH, Maine (WGME) — Two people were arrested on Monday following a traffic stop and search related to an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
At around 12:30 p.m., the Scarborough Police Department Special Enforcement Unit stopped a vehicle leaving a local hotel, which was suspected of being involved in drug trafficking. The search, assisted by a K9 unit, uncovered a variety of illegal substances, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, and psilocybin mushrooms, along with $8,000 in cash and two firearms—one of which was reported stolen from New Hampshire.
The driver, 42-year-old Wayne Nigro from Wrentham, Massachusetts, faces multiple charges, including aggravated trafficking in fentanyl, aggravated furnishing in methamphetamine, illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of schedule X drugs, theft by receiving stolen property, and criminal forfeiture of property.
Passenger Cassandra Thibodeau, 27, of Candia, New Hampshire, was charged with aggravated trafficking in fentanyl and aggravated furnishing in methamphetamine.
The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the Scarborough area.
