Sasha Bena Charged With Murder in Fort Good Hope Homicide

An 18-year-old man from Quebec, Sasha Bena, has been charged with murder in connection to the death of a 29-year-old man in Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories (NWT).

Authorities initially launched an investigation into what was described as a “suspicious sudden death” on February 24, 2025. On Monday, March 17, RCMP confirmed that the case had been ruled a homicide. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Investigators with the NWT Major Crime Unit quickly identified Bena as a suspect. He was arrested in Quebec and subsequently transported to Yellowknife for court proceedings.

RCMP allege that Bena, a Montreal resident, was in Fort Good Hope as part of the illicit drug trade.

“This homicide is a difficult reminder of the dangerous and exploitative nature of the illicit drug trade,” said Sgt. Jason Hurley of the NWT RCMP. “Drug traffickers are coming to our communities to take advantage of people’s addiction and leave behind nothing but pain and suffering.”

RCMP continue to investigate and urge anyone with information about the case—or who recognizes Bena from Fort Good Hope or Norman Wells—to contact their local RCMP detachment.
