Sariful Islam, 4 Others Held in Twin Heroin Raids

In a coordinated crackdown on narcotics, police teams in Naharlagun and Banderdewa, Arunachal Pradesh, arrested five drug peddlers and seized a total of 140.15 grams of heroin, along with vehicles suspected to be used in drug trafficking.

The first raid was carried out in the Prem Nagar area of Naharlagun by a team led by Inspector K Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun PS. The operation resulted in the arrest of Md Sariful Islam (36), a resident of Bihpuria, Assam. Police recovered 37 vials of heroin weighing 48.7 grams from his possession.

Further interrogation led police to intercept two other accused — Md Shaik Farid (24) of Lakhimpur and Md Ashraful Islam (23) of Laluk — at Kankar Nallah. Both are residents of Assam and were allegedly involved in the same drug network.

In a parallel operation, a special team from Banderdewa Police Station, working with a section of the 138 Battalion CRPF, intercepted a suspicious vehicle at the Banderdewa check gate. The occupants, Kirry Riba (23) and Techi Maj (27), were detained and found in possession of additional heroin quantities.

SP Mihin Gambo confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing to trace the broader network involved in drug distribution across the region. The operations mark a significant step in curbing drug trafficking in Arunachal Pradesh.
