In a major breakthrough, Sopore police have solved two burglary cases and arrested three accused individuals after recovering stolen jewelry worth Rs. 6.1 lakh. The arrests and recovery were announced on Saturday.
The case began on July 27, when Gulshana Begum, a resident of Kralteng Sopore, reported a burglary at her home after she returned from visiting her son. The jewelry, worth lakhs of rupees, was stolen during her absence. Based on her complaint, Police Station Sopore registered FIR No. 176/2024 and initiated an investigation.
Following the directions of SP Sopore Divya D, a dedicated investigation team was formed, led by SHO PS Sopore Insp. Ayaz Gellani and supervised by SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir. After intensive efforts, the team arrested Saqib Lateef Sofi, a resident of Sempora Sopore, who confessed to committing the theft. The investigation further revealed the involvement of two more individuals: Aabid Ahmad Lone from Zaloora Sopore, and Shakoor Ahmad Zargar, a jewelry shop owner from Iqbal Market, Sopore. Both were arrested in connection with the crime.
The police recovered a variety of stolen jewelry, including one kitty set, nine golden rings, one big jhumka, one small jhumka, five golden coins, and two earrings, valued at Rs. 6,10,000. The recovered items were found in the possession of the three arrested individuals.
The police are continuing their investigation into the burglary cases.
