The Sand Springs Police Department (SSPD) announced that Officer Theodore “Ted” Cook, a member of their force, has been arrested and is under investigation for the unauthorized use of a credit card that was supposed to be in police custody.
The investigation began when SSPD officers discovered evidence suggesting that Officer Cook might have been involved in the alleged misuse of a credit card. They immediately contacted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) to look into the matter further.
Following a detailed investigation, OSBI agents found sufficient evidence to arrest Cook on three counts of unauthorized use of a credit card and one count of grand larceny. He was taken into custody and booked into the Tulsa County Jail.
SSPD Deputy Chief Todd Enzbrenner expressed the department’s disappointment, stating, “Today is a dark and sad day in the Sand Springs Police Department. One of our own was arrested for crimes that absolutely damage the trust we share with our community. Our officers are devastated and feel betrayed, but they will continue to serve the citizens with their heads held high.”
He added, “While some will try and tarnish the years and years of honorable service to this community because of the actions of one, we will not let that deter us from continuing to serve our citizens with honor, fairness, and justice, keeping with the oath we all took.”
Deputy Chief Enzbrenner also mentioned that in his 40 years with the department, he could not recall any other officers being arrested while on duty. The department further stated that the investigation remains active, and no additional comments would be made at this time.
The case is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to look into the full extent of the alleged misuse of the credit card. Cook’s future within the department remains uncertain while the investigation proceeds.
