SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Christopher James Butler, 34, of San Rafael, was arrested on Friday following a monthlong search on allegations of vehicle thefts and evading officers. Police Lt. Scott Eberle reported that Butler was located at a hotel on Francisco Boulevard East and taken into custody.

Investigators suspect Butler has a history of stealing vehicles and engaging in reckless driving. During his evasion from law enforcement, Butler allegedly drove the wrong way on freeways twice, placing both himself and others in danger.

Butler is accused of driving stolen vehicles during two separate incidents, including one where he crashed and fled the scene. He was booked into the Marin County Jail on charges of resisting police, possessing stolen property, and carrying a controlled substance. Butler also had several outstanding warrants, including those related to stolen vehicle possession and identity theft.

Butler is currently being held without bail.
