Saif Damer Charged in Failed $61K Truck Theft Scheme

An Olathe, Kansas, man, Saif Damer, 30, has been charged in connection to a botched attempt to steal a $61,000 pickup truck from a Higginsville dealership. According to Lafayette County Circuit Court records, Damer is facing charges of identity theft, forgery, attempting to steal a motor vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.

The incident occurred on August 29, when Damer contacted employees at Banner-Coulson Chevrolet, claiming he would take possession of a 2021 Ford F-250. The truck, valued at over $61,000, had allegedly been sold to him. However, suspicious employees soon realized that Damer was impersonating the actual customer who had been dealing with the dealership. After signing the necessary paperwork, Damer was apprehended by law enforcement.

A search of Damer’s possession revealed illegal narcotics. Investigators later discovered that Damer had been involved in multiple similar thefts, targeting pickups valued between $35,000 and $77,000.

As of December 8, Damer had not been taken into custody, though an arraignment is scheduled for January 21, 2025. Further details of the case have not been released.
