SAFA President Danny Jordaan Arrested for Alleged Fraud

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan has been arrested and charged with fraud after allegedly misappropriating R1.3 million of the association’s funds for personal use. Jordaan, along with two co-accused — SAFA’s chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling — is set to appear in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge, Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale confirmed the arrests, revealing that warrants had been issued for the three individuals, who are expected to face charges following their surrender.

According to investigations, Jordaan allegedly misused the association’s resources between 2014 and 2018, including spending funds to hire a private security company for personal protection and a public relations firm to manage his image. These actions were reportedly carried out without proper authorisation from the SAFA board.

The hiring of the PR company occurred in the wake of serious allegations made by former ANC MP and singer Jennifer Ferguson, who accused Jordaan of raping her in 2017. The charges and subsequent arrest have added a layer of controversy to the case, which has already drawn significant public attention.

The case is now being closely followed, with Jordaan, Hluyo, and Neethling set to answer for the alleged misuse of SAFA’s funds. The investigation continues as authorities prepare to present the case in court.
