Colorado Springs, Colo. — Ryan Vigil, an 18-year-old from Colorado Springs, was arrested on December 31 in connection with a series of smash and grab burglaries, including those at local vape shops. Police had been investigating these crimes for the past year.
Authorities from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) coordinated a special operation to apprehend Vigil. The operation involved multiple teams, including the Tactical Enforcement Unit, K9 Unit, Drone Unit, and the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit. Investigators had tracked Vigil’s movements and were able to locate him walking from his home to a stolen vehicle hidden at a nearby apartment complex.
When officers attempted to contact Vigil, he fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by a K9 unit. Vigil was arrested on a felony warrant related to previous burglaries, theft, and criminal mischief. Additionally, he faces new charges of motor vehicle theft and resisting arrest.
Vigil remains in custody at the El Paso County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon, as police continue their investigation into the string of burglaries he is believed to have committed.
