Russian Suspect KA Arrested in Bali Crypto Robbery Case

A 30-year-old Russian national, KA, was arrested by the Bali Regional Police on January 31, 2025, in connection with a robbery targeting Ukrainian citizens. The suspect was detained at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport just before he was set to fly to Dubai.

KA is one of nine suspects identified in a robbery case involving the theft of cryptocurrency assets worth approximately Rp3.4 billion. Bali police, in collaboration with Ngurah Rai Immigration, apprehended the suspect and transported him to the police headquarters for further questioning.

Although the police have not revealed the exact role of KA in the crime, he is currently under investigation by the General Crime Detective Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the Bali Regional Police. Authorities continue to search for the remaining eight suspects involved in the robbery.

The incident occurred on December 15, 2024, when a Ukrainian national and his driver were intercepted by two cars while driving in South Kuta. Armed with knives, hammers, and pistols, four masked individuals kidnapped the victim and driver, forcing them into a villa in the area. There, the perpetrators assaulted the victim and forced him to transfer cryptocurrency to their accounts by demanding access to his phone and Binance account.

The victim sustained injuries, including bruising and swelling, and suffered significant financial loss due to the crypto theft.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the robbery.
