In a breakthrough investigation, a cybercrime team has successfully cracked a Rs 60 lakh fraud case, leading to the arrest of two more suspects in connection with the scam. The fraud network spanned multiple states, and the police believe there are additional individuals involved.
The arrested suspects, Salesh Kumar and his brother Rakesh Kumar Bharti, both residents of Bhan Puri Colony, Palia Tehsil, Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, were initially remanded for four days in their home state. They were later brought to Fazilka, where a court granted a three-day police remand for further questioning.
The fraud came to light after Sushant Nagpal from Abohar filed a complaint against several individuals, including Yashpal Patel, Amit Bhai, and Sagar Bhai, all of whom were residing in Mehsana district, Gujarat. Nagpal registered an FIR on September 18, accusing the suspects of scamming him through a fake online trading scheme.
Nagpal’s complaint stated that in April, he received a call from Yashpal, who promised heavy returns on investments in online trading. Yashpal claimed to be a broker working for a reputed firm, which lured Nagpal to transfer money into the firm’s account. However, after further inquiries, Nagpal discovered that the firm was fake. Upon learning of the losses, he reported the fraud to the authorities.
The police soon arrested Yashpal Patel on October 27 in Unjha, Mehsana district, Gujarat. During interrogation, Yashpal revealed that his friend Ankit Rawal, a resident of Shastri Nagar, Unjha, had introduced him to the online trading scheme, encouraging him to open a bank account for fraudulent transactions. Ankit Rawal was subsequently arrested on November 24 and brought to Fazilka.
As of now, the police have recovered Rs 15.5 lakh from the cybercriminals, which has been returned to the victim, Sushant Nagpal. An additional Rs 5.5 lakh has been frozen in the suspects’ bank accounts. The investigation continues, with authorities working to identify and apprehend other members of the multi-state fraud network involved in this online trading scam.
