Ronnie Barnett Arrested for Fraudulent Check in Westport Case

Westport, CT — Ronnie Barnett, a 36-year-old man from Bridgeport, was arrested this week in connection with a 2020 fraudulent check case. The arrest took place after Stratford police apprehended Barnett under a warrant issued by Westport authorities.

The investigation into the case began in December 2020 when a victim reported a fraudulent check for $6,613.32 drawn from their bank account. The check, made payable to Barnett, was not authorized by the complainant, and the check number was found to be out of sequence.

Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods confirmed that through search warrants and ATM surveillance footage, Barnett was identified as the person who negotiated and deposited the check.

Barnett now faces charges of third-degree identity theft and violation of probation. He remains in custody on a $20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on February 25, 2025.
