Roel Alvarado, Barangay Secretary, Arrested in Loan Scam

PAMPANGA, Philippines – Authorities arrested Roel Alvarado, the barangay secretary of San Isidro, Floridablanca, Pampanga, on Monday, August 19, for his alleged role in a car loan scam that defrauded public school teachers in the area.

Alvarado, 34, was apprehended at Astro Park in Angeles City by the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) following an arrest warrant issued on August 5. The warrant, which was authorized by Judge Gladys Pinky Tolete Machacon of the 2nd Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) in San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan, charged him with nine counts of estafa.

Reports indicate that Alvarado facilitated a fraudulent car loan scheme, exploiting public school teachers as his victims. In addition to his role as a barangay secretary, Alvarado had also campaigned for a position on the village council in the 2023 barangay elections.
