Southern Pines Police Arrest Two in Drug Bust

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Two people have been arrested following a drug bust on U.S. Highway 1 in Southern Pines. Robert Burr, 34, of Carthage, and Cortnie Ferguson, 35, of Pinehurst, were taken into custody on May 1 after a routine traffic stop by the Southern Pines Police Department’s Directed Patrol Unit.

At approximately 11:04 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of the Best Western motel for operating without a registration plate. The investigation, which involved the use of a police K-9, led to the discovery and seizure of multiple drugs and drug-related items. Authorities recovered:

  • 0.06 grams of cocaine
  • 1.28 grams of crack cocaine
  • 1.74 grams of methamphetamine
  • 0.54 grams of heroin
  • 34 dosage units of other controlled substances
  • 11 items of assorted drug paraphernalia
  • One firearm

Both Burr and Ferguson were arrested and taken to the Moore County Detention Center. Burr was remanded without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 16. Ferguson was held on a $50,000 secured bond with a court appearance scheduled for June 28.

Burr has a prior arrest record, having been taken into custody by the Moore County Sheriff’s Department in 2020.

Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing.
