SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) — A man was arrested Tuesday after assaulting a hospital security officer at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg County.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office responded to the hospital around 6:15 a.m. following a report of an assault. Deputies arrived to find Ricky Terrell Brannon handcuffed outside by hospital security.
According to the incident report, Brannon assaulted a security officer during his arrest for trespassing inside the hospital. The officer was knocked to the ground, and Brannon grabbed the officer’s handcuffs, using them to strike the officer. Attempts to subdue Brannon with a taser were unsuccessful, and he continued his assault while trying to seize the officer’s weapon.
The officer managed to retain control of his firearm and used pepper spray to subdue Brannon. During the altercation, Brannon reportedly threatened to “end” the officer if he had gained control of the weapon.
Brannon was charged with attempted murder and trespassing after notice. He was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center and denied bond.
