“Redding Man Arrested After Stolen Chainsaws and Drugs Found During Probation Search”

Redding, Calif. — A Redding man was arrested after authorities uncovered a stash of stolen chainsaws, drugs, and illegal items during a probation search, following the theft of 45 chainsaws from a local tree service company.

According to the Redding Police Department (RPD), the theft was reported on December 30, 2024, when the tree service company notified authorities that 45 Stihl chainsaws, along with other essential tools, were taken from their business. The incident prompted an immediate investigation into the burglary.

Arrest and Probation Search
Just a week later, on January 6, 2025, police conducted a probation search of William Allison, 33, at his residence in the 1000 block of State Street in Redding. Allison was already on “searchable County Probation” due to a prior conviction for possession of stolen property.

During the search, officers discovered 12 stolen chainsaws matching the stolen property from the tree service company. Additionally, over an ounce of methamphetamine, body armor, shotgun ammunition, and drug paraphernalia were recovered at the scene.

Charges Against Allison
Allison was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on several charges, including:

Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
Being a felon in possession of ammunition and body armor
Possession of stolen property
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Violating probation
RPD also noted that Allison had previous drug convictions, which led to his violation of Proposition 36.

Ongoing Investigation
The Redding Police Department has stated that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information regarding the theft or the case to contact the Neighborhood Police Unit or provide anonymous tips through Secret Witness of Shasta County.
