Rebecca Kumar Admits to Causing Fatal Crash, Killing 14-Year-Old

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKRC) – An 18-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a crash that killed a 14-year-old boy in March. Rebecca Kumar admitted to causing the crash, which led to the death of Laith Masri, a freshman student from Lakota.

Investigators reported that Kumar was driving nearly 103 miles per hour on Verity Parkway near Hughes when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to flip. In addition to Masri’s death, three other teenagers sustained injuries in the crash.

Kumar faces up to seven and a half years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. Her sentencing is scheduled for January.
