The RCMP has charged Travis Plant, a 34-year-old off-duty officer, with impaired driving following a vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Glovertown. The incident occurred on Sunday around 10:45 AM NT.
Upon arrival, police administered a roadside breath test, which Plant failed. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the detachment, where breath samples revealed a blood alcohol concentration more than one and a half times the legal limit.
As a result, Plant’s driver’s license has been suspended, and his vehicle has been impounded. The RCMP stated that Plant’s current duty status is under review, and SIRT-NL, the province’s police watchdog, has been notified.
It is important to note that none of the charges have been proven in court. A different individual with the same name is scheduled to appear in a Gander courtroom on January 14, facing two charges related to operating a vehicle while impaired.
