Rangaswami Arrested for His Brother-in-Law’s Murder in Davanagere

Police in Channagiri, Davanagere district, have apprehended Rangaswami TN, the primary suspect in the brutal murder of his brother-in-law, Hanumantappa. Rangaswami had been on the run for two months following the killing, which occurred on November 28, 2024, near Ajjanahalli village in Channagiri taluk. Hanumantappa, who was married to Rangaswami’s sister Asha, was fatally struck on the head.

Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant confirmed that Rangaswami was identified as the primary accused in the murder investigation. Prior to Rangaswami’s arrest, police had already taken into custody Hanumantappa’s wife Asha, their children, and Asha’s father, VT Nagarajappa. Authorities believe that the motive behind the murder was Asha’s dissatisfaction over not receiving her rightful share of land.

The incident occurred early in the morning, around 7 AM, when Rangaswami followed Hanumantappa on a motorcycle before attacking him. The investigation is ongoing, with charges filed under Sections 103(1), 62, 3(5) BNS. The police continue to probe the case for further details.
