In a significant development, Ramkrishna Bhalekar, the main accused in the brutal assault on Ahmed Devdi, was arrested in Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, days after Devdi succumbed to his injuries. The assault took place on May 30, 2024, in Mapusa, Goa, when Devdi and his companion, Sandesh Salkar, were attacked by a group of seven individuals.
The police conducted intensive searches across multiple locations in both Goa and Maharashtra, eventually apprehending Bhalekar, who had been evading capture. Bhalekar, aged 32, a resident of Laxminagar, Mapusa, was previously involved in two criminal cases, according to North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal.
The investigation revealed that the attack, carried out with iron rods, was rooted in personal enmity. Devdi sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the Goa Medical College in Bambolim, where he later died from his injuries on June 5. Following his death, the police modified the charges from assault to murder.
The police had initially arrested six individuals in connection with the assault. However, with Bhalekar now in custody, authorities are working to gather more information and identify any additional people involved in the crime.
Other arrested individuals include Manthan Chari, Shridhar Killedar, Abhishekh Pujari, Sharanbasu Gaikwad, Nagraj Pujari, and Boresh Pujari. They are now all facing murder charges following the victim’s death.
Police continue to probe the case and are determined to uncover the full motives behind the attack.
