JASPER COUNTY, Texas – A Louisiana man, Ralph Borrego, 43, of Merryville, was arrested early Tuesday morning after leading a Jasper County sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed chase that ended in a drug bust, according to authorities.
The incident began around 1:30 a.m. when a Jasper County deputy attempted to pull Borrego over for a traffic stop. Instead of complying, Borrego fled, leading officers on a pursuit into Newton County.
Arrest and Charges
The chase ended when Borrego lost control of his vehicle near County Roads 4075 and 4070 in Bon Wier. He attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by law enforcement.
A search of Borrego revealed marijuana and a substance believed to be methamphetamine, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Borrego was taken into custody and booked into the Jasper County Jail on the following charges:
Evading Arrest in a Vehicle (Third-Degree Felony)
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation remains ongoing.
