Stouffville Vehicle Theft Attempt Foiled, One Arrested

Raheem Mateenjam, 27, charged in connection with attempted vehicle theft

York Regional Police arrested a suspect and are seeking another after foiling an attempted vehicle theft in Stouffville last week.

On December 19, around 2:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspect trying to steal a Lexus GX 460 near Ina Lane and Mostar Street. Police quickly located one suspect who had fled on foot. He was found with a key fob programmer device. Meanwhile, a second suspect fled in a grey Mercedes sedan. Though the theft was unsuccessful, the victim’s vehicle sustained damage.

Raheem Mateenjam, 27, of Chateauguay, Quebec, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of an automobile master key, possession of break-in tools, and disguise with intent.

Investigators are asking anyone with dash cam or surveillance footage from the area at the time to come forward.
