Puran Kumar Timothy Arrested in ₹50 Lakh Job Scam

A 50-year-old man, Puran Kumar Timothy, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly cheating individuals by promising them jobs abroad in exchange for money through a call centre scheme. Timothy, a resident of Sector 34, targeted victims primarily by offering job opportunities in Canada, assisting them with passports and visas through calls and social media advertisements.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rambadan Singh, Timothy has defrauded people out of a total of Rs50 lakh, with the exact number of victims still being determined. His arrest followed a complaint at the Sector 58 police station, where it was reported that he swindled Rs2.5 lakh from the daughter of a complainant by falsely promising her a job in Canada.

The suspect claimed to be the managing director of a fake company named Christian Global Net Services Pvt Ltd. Investigations revealed that this alleged company operated a call centre in the area. Timothy would charge each victim between Rs2 lakh and Rs6 lakh but failed to fulfill any of his promises, as noted by DCP Singh.

Timothy admitted to running the fraudulent operation under the name Varina Travels along with a partner, luring people through social media. He also mentioned that he frequently changed his staff every two to three months to evade detection.

He has been charged under relevant sections of the law, and police are continuing their investigation to identify other potential victims.
