In a significant drug bust, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police arrested three Punjab Roadways employees for their involvement in drug trafficking. The operation, led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, resulted in the seizure of 55 grams of heroin.
The police had been conducting routine checks near a local bus stand when they spotted a suspicious individual carrying a black polythene envelope. Upon seeing the police, the man tried to flee and discarded the envelope. However, the officers quickly apprehended him. He was identified as Ajit Singh, alias Raju, a resident of Amargarh Bashirpura in Jalandhar, who works for Punjab Roadways.
Upon inspecting the envelope, officers found five grams of heroin. During interrogation, Ajit Singh revealed the involvement of two more suspects: Deepak Sharma, a fellow Punjab Roadways employee, and Keerat Singh, an inspector at the Punjab Roadways Depot in Jalandhar-2.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the drug trafficking network, which allegedly involved smuggling heroin using the Punjab Roadways staff. The case highlights ongoing efforts by Jalandhar Police to curb the growing drug trade in the region.
