Punjab Police Arrest Harmandeep Singh, Seize 10 Kg Heroin in Cross-Border Smuggling Operation

In a major intelligence-based operation, the Punjab Police arrested Harmandeep Singh from Mahal village in Amritsar district, recovering 10 kg of heroin from his possession. According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, Singh had been in constant contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler named Chacha Bawa, who was reportedly sending heroin through drones in the Attari sector for further distribution.

This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into a cross-border drug smuggling racket, and authorities are working to identify Singh’s associates and trace the broader smuggling network.

Earlier this month, the Amritsar Rural Police made one of the biggest heroin seizures of the year, arresting Gursimranjit Singh (alias Simran), a resident of Baserke Gillan in Amritsar. They recovered 30 kg of heroin from his possession. Gursimranjit Singh is said to have been involved in large-scale heroin trafficking, with his recent consignment reportedly smuggled across the India-Pakistan border via drones.

The authorities are further investigating the operations of Pakistan-based smuggling syndicates, and the use of drones has raised concerns about the growing sophistication of smuggling methods.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Charanjit Singh, a tip-off led to the arrest of Gursimranjit Singh during a routine check. Police teams stopped a Ford Fiesta car, where they discovered four packets of heroin, weighing 7.5 kg each, hidden in a black bag inside the vehicle.

Both arrests are part of a broader effort to combat cross-border narcotics smuggling, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further details about the smuggling routes, the drug suppliers, and their distribution networks.
