In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell-I of Pune Crime Branch arrested Nathuram Jeevanram Jat, a 52-year-old man, and seized 1 kilogram of opium valued at Rs 21.80 lakh. The operation, carried out under the guidance of senior police officials, is part of Pune’s ongoing efforts to combat crime and drug abuse across the city.
Jat, a resident of Rajasthan, was detained near Unnati Dham Society in Pune after officers noticed him acting suspiciously while carrying a red travel bag. Upon questioning, Jat provided his details, but a subsequent search revealed the opium, weighing 1 kg and 90 grams, hidden in the bag. The drugs were intended for sale, and Jat admitted to bringing them to Pune for quick financial gain.
An FIR under Sections 8 (c) and 17 (b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was filed at Kondhwa Police Station. The successful operation is part of the city’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, aimed at reducing the growing menace of drug trafficking.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, with significant contributions from Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balakawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle, and ACP Ganesh Ingale.
The team behind the operation included Senior Police Inspector Ulhas Kadam and Assistant Police Inspector Aniket Pote, with support from officers Dayanand Telange Patil, Sandeep Shirke, Vishal Dalvi, Sachin Malve, Pravin Uttekar, Sandesh Kakade, Dattaram Jadhav, Dnyaneshwar Ghorpade, and Yogesh Mohite.
