Pune Police Arrest Armed Robbers Behind Gold Chain Snatching

A gang of armed robbers involved in a gold chain snatching incident during a morning walk has been arrested following a swift investigation by Pune City Police. The crime took place on December 24, 2024, in the jurisdiction of Alankar Police Station.

The victim, while on his morning walk near Ayodhya Hotel, was confronted by two unknown men who forcibly snatched his gold chain. The assailants fled the scene on a motorcycle driven by a third accomplice. A case was filed under Section 309 (4), 3 (5) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections.

The incident quickly spread across local WhatsApp groups, causing panic among morning walkers. In response, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam and Senior Police Commissioner Ajay Parmar directed a fast-paced investigation.

After reviewing over 200 CCTV footages and gathering intelligence, the police tracked down the suspects. Abhishek and Bharat Khandare, aged 22, were apprehended near Kishkinda Nagar, Kothrud based on a tip-off from a confidential informant.

During interrogation, the duo admitted to being involved in similar forced theft incidents, including two others at Alankar Police Station and Chatushrungi Police Station. The police recovered two stolen gold chains, a gold pendant, the motorcycle used in the crime, and a sword. The total worth of the stolen property amounted to Rs 2,86,250.

Further investigation revealed the duo’s involvement in several theft cases at gunpoint. The Alankar Police Station and Chatushrungi Police Station are continuing their inquiries.

This successful operation was led by Additional Commissioner of Police, Pravin Kumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam, Senior Police Commissioner Ajay Parmar, and Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade, with Inspector (Crime) Anil Mane heading the investigation team. Key contributions came from Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Dixit and other officers.
