Procoror Muntean and Retan Varga Arrested in Theft Investigation

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WISH) – Two individuals were arrested along I-65 in central Indiana after being linked to multiple thefts in Illinois and Wisconsin, according to Indiana State Police. Authorities recovered over $50,000 in stolen jewelry, electronics, cash, and other items from their vehicle, a 2023 Lincoln Navigator.

The car was stopped on Tuesday near the State Road 28 interchange between Frankfort and Attica, after police received a tip that it was connected to a theft in Countryside, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. During the investigation, police uncovered additional evidence linking the suspects to a theft in West Allis, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee.

The driver, 23-year-old Procoror Muntean of Queens Village, New York, and his passenger, 26-year-old Retan Varga of East Kent, Washington, face preliminary charges of theft, marijuana possession, and obstruction of justice. Muntean also faces charges related to operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI).

Both suspects were still in custody at the Clinton County jail in Frankfort as of Wednesday night, with formal charges pending. Police are working to return the stolen items to their rightful owners.
