Priya Arrested for Cheating Pollachi Farmer of Rs7.12 Lakh

A 32-year-old woman from Salem, identified as Priya, was arrested for cheating a Pollachi-based farmer of Rs7.12 lakh by promising to marry him. Priya, the daughter of Mathiyazhagan from Vazhapadi, had been married three times before, with her first husband having passed away, her second marriage ending in divorce, and her third marriage also breaking down. Currently, she is in a live-in relationship in Salem.

Last year, Priya posted her photos on a matrimonial application, where Pollachi farmer P Mayilsamy, 32, showed interest in marrying her. Over several months, from August 2023 to February 2024, Priya and Mayilsamy communicated through video calls. During this period, Priya convinced Mayilsamy to give her Rs7.12 lakh for her sister’s medical treatment.

However, in March 2024, Priya suddenly stopped contacting Mayilsamy. Upon investigation, Mayilsamy learned that the residential address Priya had provided was fake. He filed a complaint with Coimbatore district Superintendent of Police, Dr. K Karthikeyan, leading to the involvement of the cybercrime police.

The police traced Priya using the address from her bank passbook and arrested her on Saturday night. A mobile phone was seized from her during the arrest.
