The Crime Branch on Monday arrested 44-year-old Praveena Senva from the Koyali area for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from several jewellers across the city. According to the police, Senva would visit jewellery shops posing as a customer, carrying fake jewellery. She would distract the shop staff and replace the gold pieces with the fake ones.
The authorities received intelligence about a woman attempting to sell jewellery in the Mandvi area, which led to her detention. During investigation, it was revealed that Senva had committed three thefts in the past month at jewellery shops on Makarpura, Vadsar Road, and Gendigate. The police managed to recover jewellery worth Rs 2.29 lakh from her possession.
Senva is accused of selling the stolen jewellery at discounted prices to other jewellers. Further investigation into her activities is ongoing.
