Hyderabad: Chilkalguda police on Thursday apprehended two notorious fraudsters who scammed car owners under the pretext of renting their vehicles, cheating them of approximately Rs7 lakh. The police also recovered eight cars valued at around Rs80 lakh from the accused.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sangishetty Praveen Kumar (44) and G Amarendar (32), both residents of Secunderabad. A third accomplice, Md Rizwan, remains at large.
According to officials, Praveen Kumar, the prime accused, approached car owners with enticing offers of high monthly rental income. Trusting him, several owners, including a man named Gyaneshwar and his friends, handed over a total of eight vehicles.
However, instead of honoring the rental agreements, Praveen and his associates neither paid the promised rent nor returned the vehicles. The investigation revealed that the gang moved the cars across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, transferring possession to various individuals with fraudulent intent.
“Praveen criminally misappropriated the vehicles, causing significant financial losses to the victims,” said DCP East Zone B Balaswamy.
All eight vehicles were successfully recovered following the arrests. Authorities have issued a public advisory urging vehicle owners to verify the credibility of any rental party before leasing out their vehicles.
