Port Byron Man Jailed on Felony Charges for Strangulation & Assault

A Port Byron man has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly strangling and assaulting a woman in the town of Ledyard.

Incident Details
Shortly after 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call near Dill and Redmond Roads for a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they found a woman who had been beaten and strangled.

The victim was transported to Auburn Community Hospital by Southern Cayuga Ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

Suspect Arrested
The suspect, Matthew Palmer, was located by deputies in his vehicle and taken into custody. He has been charged with:

Criminal Contempt (Felony)
Aggravated Criminal Contempt (Felony)
Criminal Obstruction of Breathing (Misdemeanor)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor)
Bail & Legal Proceedings
Palmer is currently being held in Cayuga County Jail on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.

Authorities remind the public that criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The investigation remains ongoing.
