Polokwane, South Africa – Two women have reportedly turned state witnesses in connection with the murder of six individuals linked to an alleged insurance payout scam involving police officer Liza Matladi, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the scheme.
The officer was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon, just hours after the two women were questioned separately in Ga-Mokgohloa and Sengatane, areas outside Polokwane. According to police insiders, Matladi allegedly orchestrated the murders of the women’s ex-boyfriends, whom they had insured prior to their deaths.
Details of the Allegations
Reports suggest that Matladi had taken out insurance policies with multiple companies, including Absa, FNB, Assupol, One Life, and Standard Bank. It is believed she received approximately R10 million in payouts following the six murders.

- Joyce Tsela Malesa (murdered on July 5, 2020)
- Navel Kutumela (killed on April 6, 2021)
- Maphari Ephraim Chosi (murdered on August 1, 2021)
- Jacob Petrus Seakamela (killed on September 14, 2022)
- Phuthi Martin Mothata (murdered on April 13, 2024)
Use of Insurance Payouts
It is alleged that Matladi used the insurance payouts to finance extravagant purchases, including two Range Rover SUVs, a Toyota Land Cruiser, a BMW 3 Series, and a Mercedes Benz C-Class.
