On Friday, the Park Street police arrested Moumita Si, the locker in-charge of a nationalized bank, and her brother Mithun Si for allegedly stealing gold and diamond jewellery valued at Rs1.25 crore from a customer’s locker.
The pair was arrested from their residence on Jagannath Ghosh Road in Kasba, following a detailed investigation into a complaint filed at the Park Street police station. On December 14, a woman had reported that Moumita and others were involved in a criminal conspiracy to misappropriate her gold and diamond jewellery from the bank’s locker, breaching her trust.
Following the arrests, police recovered gold jewellery worth Rs56 lakh, Rs2.72 lakh in cash, an Innova Crysta car valued at Rs27.50 lakh, two iPhones worth ₹3 lakh, a laptop, four mobile phones, and several bank and business documents from the suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are being gathered.
