Palghar Police Bust Transformer Theft Gang, Arrest Three Men

Palghar Police arrested three individuals for allegedly stealing electrical transformers and dismantling a gang involved in such crimes. The accused were found in possession of four stolen transformers, 620 kilograms of copper, and 20 litres of transformer oil, according to officials.

The suspects, identified as Obedulla Alam Tajmmul Hussain Khan (26), Anil Ambika Yadav (22), and Jaysingh Kishorilal Chavan (36), had been involved in transformer thefts for months. Their arrests were made following an investigation into a transformer theft on February 12 in the district. Senior Inspector Samir Ahirrao of Crime Unit-II, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police, confirmed the arrests. Yadav and Chavan had multiple prior cases registered against them for similar offenses.

The arrests in Maharashtra come just a day after Bengaluru police began investigating a bizarre heist where six thieves stole 830 kilograms of human hair worth Rs1 crore from a godown on February 28. The hair, intended for export to China, Myanmar, and Hong Kong, was taken late at night. CCTV footage showed the thieves arriving in a Mahindra Bolero SUV and using iron rods to break into the godown in Lakshmipura Cross.

Although the footage captured the robbers, the low resolution and unclear vehicle registration number made identification difficult. Police are continuing their investigation into the hair theft case.
