In a breakthrough in a Paithani saree theft case, Dadar Police successfully arrested two suspects from Andhra Pradesh, recovering sarees worth Rs10 lakh. The accused were identified as Ganji Shivram Prasad Sudhakar (37) and Taneru Shivkumar Venkateshwar Rao (31), both residents of Undavalli Village, Tadepalli Taluka, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh.
The theft took place on September 29, between 3 PM and 4 PM, when a man posing as a potential customer visited the residence of Kshitij Sawant and his wife, Prachi, in Dadar West. While Prachi was distracted by the customer, he managed to steal a collection of pure silk Paithani sarees worth Rs10 lakh. The crime was reported to Dadar Police on September 30.
During the investigation, the police scrutinized CCTV footage from the Sawant residence and surrounding areas, which revealed a car used in the crime. Although the car had no number plate, investigators were able to trace its owner using Fastag toll data collected at Atal Setu. Further analysis of toll records and UPI transaction details provided crucial information that led police to identify the suspects and trace their bank accounts.
The trail led investigators to Tadepalli Village, near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. After obtaining approval from senior police officers, the investigation team apprehended Ganji Shivram Prasad Sudhakar and Taneru Shivkumar Venkateshwar Rao, recovering five stolen sarees in the process.
The arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen goods is being hailed as a significant achievement in solving the case. The investigation team is continuing to gather evidence and pursue leads to determine whether the accused were involved in similar thefts across other locations.
