The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi II, has denied allegations circulating on social media that he duped a woman in the United States out of $180,000. According to reports from New Telegraph, an X blogger claimed the monarch received this large sum from a woman named Fagbule, an Osun native, in an alleged marriage scam.
The claims included a voice note suggesting that the victim, also from Ile-Ife, was known to the traditional ruler and had sought to arrange free medical care for women and children in her community before being defrauded.
In response, the Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, took to Facebook to label the allegations as “fake, untrue, and unfounded.” The Ooni firmly denied any personal connection to Fagbule, asserting that she was misled by scammers impersonating him.
He also cautioned women against falling victim to such scams due to their desire to marry.
