Omar Sierra, Jr. Arrested in Polk County for Armed Burglary & Theft

18-Year-Old Omar Sierra Jr. Arrested After Stealing Firearms, Mini-Bike

An 18-year-old man from Frostproof, Florida, was arrested this month after a month-long investigation into a series of crimes, including armed burglary, grand theft of a firearm, and tampering with evidence. Omar Sierra, Jr. was apprehended by Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives after evading capture for weeks.

The investigation began in November after Sierra stole a mini-bike from a residence in Frostproof. When the owner attempted to stop the theft, Sierra threw sand in the victim’s eyes and fled the scene. Law enforcement tried to locate him but were unsuccessful until they connected him to two car burglaries in the area that occurred in December. Among the stolen items was a Glock 9mm handgun.

Detectives collected evidence pointing to Sierra’s involvement in the burglaries, and intensified their efforts to capture him. They patrolled the Lakeview Park neighborhood, where Sierra lived, and eventually located him walking in the area.

Despite the arrest, Sierra’s mother attempted to obstruct the investigation. She allegedly instructed her son to remain silent and refused to let detectives search their home for the stolen handgun without a warrant. However, detectives secured a warrant, which led them to find the firearm in Sierra’s bedroom.

Sierra was booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with Armed Burglary of Conveyance, Grand Theft of a Firearm, Burglary of Conveyance, Burglary with Assault, Unarmed Burglary of a Dwelling, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, and Tampering with Evidence. The investigation continues.
