Justin Mack, an Ohio man, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in a sophisticated insurance fraud scheme totaling over $229,000. Mack, 42, was found guilty of filing 24 fraudulent insurance claims with multiple insurers, including American Strategic Insurance, Lemonade Insurance, Aetna, and Liberty Mutual Pet Insurance. The claims were based on falsified documentation, stolen identities, and fabricated events.
Mack’s fraudulent scheme included false claims for a variety of incidents such as property theft, medical expenses, and veterinary services. One of the most significant claims involved a false report of vandalism and theft at a nonexistent apartment, amounting to $42,134.14. In another instance, he claimed over $162,000 for false medical treatments, including a fabricated cancer diagnosis.
The fraudulent activity was uncovered through a thorough investigation by the Ohio Department of Insurance. The investigation revealed that Mack had used altered police reports, receipts, and medical records to support his claims. On November 25, Mack pleaded guilty to 13 felony charges, including insurance fraud, tampering with records, and identity fraud.
In addition to his prison sentence, Mack was ordered to pay restitution. His actions highlight the importance of vigilant investigative practices in detecting and prosecuting insurance fraud, which imposes significant costs on both insurance companies and consumers alike.
