The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha recently arrested Manas Ranjan Barik, the ex-president, and Utkal Das, the secretary of Gandhamardhan Loading Agency & Transporting Cooperative Society Ltd, for alleged fraud and misappropriation totaling over Rs 35 crore. The two individuals were apprehended in Suakati, Keonjhar district.
The arrest followed a complaint from Biswanath Roul, who accused the duo of engaging in fraudulent activities involving forged documents. These activities allegedly led to the misappropriation of Rs 40 to 50 crore during the loading of iron ore from mines managed by the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC). The accused will be presented in court under the OPID Act in Balasore for further proceedings.
