NSCDC Arrests Four Suspects in Lagos for Truck Vandalism, Scams

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) paraded four suspects on Monday for various offences that caused significant harm to their unsuspecting victims.

One of the suspects, Olamilekan Olowookere, a 29-year-old male from Osun State, was arrested for deliberately vandalizing a truck he was hired to drive. He was caught around the Guinness area of Ikeja on January 27, 2025, at about 9:00 AM. Olowookere, alongside two other suspects — Abba Idris, a 28-year-old scrap dealer from Kano State, and Ejitunde Wasiu, a 48-year-old vulcanizer from Osun State — was arrested by the NSCDC patrol team for disassembling the truck and selling its parts as scrap to buyers.

In a separate case, Ahmed Hamisu, a 28-year-old from Adamawa State, was paraded for operating a scam involving fake payment receipts for online purchases. Hamisu and his group defrauded unsuspecting individuals by sending counterfeit payment alerts. Following complaints from two direct victims, the NSCDC deployed operatives who apprehended Hamisu on Sunday, January 24, 2025, at about 4:00 PM at Orege Road, Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

Despite the arrests, other members of Hamisu’s group, including Yinusa and Mohammed, are still at large, and efforts are underway to capture them.

Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, addressed the media at the NSCDC headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, explaining that investigations revealed the suspects used fake payment alerts, intimidated victims, and even impersonated military personnel by wearing camouflage uniforms and berets. They also used multiple phone numbers to communicate with their victims.
