A serial conman from Nottingham, Carl Mould—now identifying as Nicholas Hampshire—has been sentenced to return to prison for defrauding customers out of approximately £65,000. During a recent appearance via video link from HMP Nottingham at Nottingham Crown Court, the 58-year-old pleaded guilty to five counts of fraud.
Hampshire, residing on Basford Road, admitted to taking money from five customers for building and gardening services he never completed between March 2021 and July 2022. The prosecutor revealed that Hampshire has a troubling history, with 10 prior convictions for 40 offenses, including 24 for fraud, resulting in multiple lengthy prison sentences.
The court learned that Hampshire was remanded to prison earlier this year after breaching a suspended sentence for driving while disqualified and without insurance. His initial sentence stemmed from harassment charges in the summer of 2023. In 2018, while still known as Carl Mould, he was exposed as a conman in a BBC program. Judge Steve Coupland has remanded him into custody and scheduled sentencing for November 18.
